संपुटिताङ्गुलीर्नम्रं अञ्जलिर्नाम हस्तकः ||
Anjali mudra is formed by joining both palms together, fingers aligned, in front of the chest or forehead. It is used to show salutation, prayer, or offering respect to deities, gurus, and elders.
अङ्गुष्ठमध्यामानामिका युक्तं सिंहमुखं स्मृतम् ||
Simhamukha mudra is formed by joining the tips of the thumb, middle, and ring fingers, while keeping the index and little fingers extended. It depicts a lion’s face, garland offering, or medicinal herbs.
कटकमुखस्त्रिविधो भवति यत्राङ्गुल्यस्तिस्रः संयुज्यन्ते |
Katakamukha mudra is formed by bringing the index finger, middle finger, and thumb together, keeping the remaining fingers extended. It is used for holding a garland, drawing a bowstring, or offering betel leaves and flowers.
सर्वाङ्गुल्यः प्रसारिताः सव्यवस्थिता आलपद्मः स्यात् ||
Alapadma mudra is created by spreading all fingers outward gracefully from the palm. It represents a blossoming lotus, beauty, a full moon, or femininity. It’s often used to express grace and elegance.
तर्जनीकनिष्ठिके युक्ते अङ्गुल्याः संयुताः सदा | मध्यमाऽर्धपताकाख्या हस्तः स्यात् पार्श्वतः स्थिता ||
Ardhapataka mudra is formed by bending the ring finger while keeping the other fingers straight and joined. It symbolizes leaves, a dagger, flag, or a board and is often used in nature depictions and storytelling.
अङ्गुष्ठानामिकासंयोगो हंसस्यः कथ्यते बुधैः ||
